Hostiles is a balanced depiction of life in the west. There were good and bad people on both sides. It shows that if you fear or hate a group of people, you can see their point of view if you are forced to spend time with them individually. Christian Bale portrays the conflicted Captain Blocker, trying to come to terms with his actions at Wounded Knee. Wes Studi’s performance as Chief Yellow Hawk has a stoic grace. Rosemund Pike is her usual breathy, emotive self in her representation of Rosalee Quaid, a woman who endures horrific trials while trying to make her way back home. The scenery, traveling from New Mexico to Montana, is stunning.
