I am frustrated by this type of movie. It states that it is based on a true story. Unfortunately, many people get their history from the movies. I don’t know why movie makers can’t just stick with the truth or just change all the names so that it is a work of fiction. Yes, Sitting Bull was a real person but that is about all that is factual about this movie. Jessica Chastain has perfected the naïve yet strong heroine role. This time she portrays Catherine (Caroline) Weldon, a New York artist who travels west to paint a portrait of Sitting Bull (Michael Greyeyes). Sam Rockwell seems to still be in 3 Billboards mode, so he plays a bully soldier with great aplomb. The location shots in New Mexico and North Dakota are breathtaking.
In theaters June 29th.
Catherine Weldon, a portrait painter from 1890s Brooklyn, travels to Dakota to paint a portrait of Sitting Bull and becomes embroiled in the Lakota peoples’ struggle over the rights to their land.
