Finally, it’s here! We have been telling anyone who would listen, and even some people who wouldn’t, this is the movie of the year! Our favorite movie and winner of the 2018 People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. We liked it so much we sent our husbands and they agreed. We were a little nervous when we found out the movie was directed by Peter Farrelly but we were pleasantly surprised. Green Book is everything you want a movie to be – funny without going too far, smart, dramatic, and charming. This biopic about the unusual friendship between Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortenson) is wonderful in its authenticity. Both leads are perfect in their roles. Linda Cardellini is adorable as Dolores, Tony’s loving wife. The screenplay was coauthored by Tony’s son, Nick Vallelonga (Augie). After a 5-minute standing ovation, Ali, Mortenson, Cardellini, Farrelly, Vallelonga, Brian Hayes Curie and Kris Bowers (score and hand double for piano shots) came out for a Q & A. At the premier they received a 10-minute ovation, which shocked them, they had no idea how well the movie would be received. One of the interesting items was that in the large family shots, they used actual Vallelonga family members. They also spoke about how much the family had helped with the making of the film, telling stories of the relationship between the two men that lasted until their deaths in 2013. This is a perfect Thanksgiving family movie, go see it as soon as possible!
