We saw Judy at the Elgin theater on day 7 of TIFF 2019. Renée Zellweger does a good job portraying Judy Garland during a little-known time in the star’s life. They do a nice job of interleaving vignettes of her early life. They reveal her struggle between being a star and being “just a girl”. Her lifelong fight with pills and food is painfully depicted. The constant search for someone to take care of her is also heartbreaking. The pace is a little slow, but it is nice to hear her music again.
